The Broad Hinton Chruch Trust Fund
About 30 years ago, The Trust was set up by members of the local community to raise funds for the maintenance of the Church infrastructure. Although totally independent of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and the Salisbury Diocese, there is close engagement between both parties. This engagement ensures that there are sufficient funds specifically for the agreed work programme which will safeguard the Church Building.
The Trust and the PCC have overlapping but different purposes. Whereas the PCC principally maintains and spreads the Christian Faith whilst fulfilling its financial obligations to the Diocese of Salisbury, it also has the legal obligation to maintain the Church. The Trust was set up to support the PCC, focusing solely on maintaining the Church infrastructure. It has no legal position in the Church’s formal processes and is a registered Charity in its own right. There are 7 Trustees today, people from the local community who work to protect the legacy of our Church Building.
It is important to note that any donations made specifically to the Trust will only be used to maintain the Broad Hinton Church Building fabric. It does not pass funds to the PCC or to the Diocese for any other purposes.
How will we raise the required funds?
We will be applying to various Grant organisations for support in raising the £500,000 we believe we will need to complete the work required. Some organisations will match what The Trust can raise whilst others will provide a percentage. This means we will need to raise funds ourselves and not just rely on grant bodies.
We are looking at which grant bodies we should approach with the main one being the Heritage Fund. But we must start fund raising now as the more we have as a contribution, the more the grant organisations will consider our requests for support. We would like to try to raise 20% of the target which is £100,000.
